Indicated for women with blocked fallopian tubes, cervical abnormalities, ovulation problems, endometriosis, and men with abnormal sperm quality and/or quantity.

As well as in couples with infertility of unknown origin, couples who have undergone other assisted reproduction techniques and have not been successful, couples in which one or both have undergone permanent contraception (tubal ligation and/or vasectomy) or single women who wish to have a child.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is an assisted reproductive technology that involves extracting a woman's eggs and fertilizing them in a laboratory with sperm from her partner or a sperm donor. This results in one or more embryos, which are then transferred to the woman's uterus for implantation and development. The treatment also includes the option of using donor eggs and sperm banks if needed.

It consists of the subcutaneous application of hormones for about 10 days, during which time the patient has to attend 3 to 4 consultations for follicular monitoring and blood samples for adequate control.

Egg retrieval

The procedure is performed in the operating room under sedation for approximately 15 minutes. Eggs are retrieved via transvaginal puncture guided by ultrasound. In expert hands, complications are minimal, and the patient can return to work the same day.

It is a process that consists of the union of eggs with sperm after preparation. There are two methods of union: the conventional one, which involves placing thousands of sperm around an egg so that it penetrates naturally, and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), which involves injecting a single sperm directly into each egg, which we will study later.

The transfer is usually performed on the third day of embryonic development or on day 5 or 6 (blastocyst stage), depending on the decision made by the doctor and embryologist. It involves taking one or two embryos and placing them in a cannula, which is then inserted into the uterus under ultrasound guidance.
